The corridor

The Rapibus is the first bus rapid transit (BRT) system to have seen the light of day in Québec. Since 2013, that corridor, exclusively reserved for buses, has linked the Taché-UQO and Labrosse stations.

 Currently, 12 Rapibus stations provide easier access to different educational, work and entertainment hubs.

Study - Rapibus extention to Aeroport boulevard

Prepared in collaboration with CIMA+, the opportunity study helped identify and analyze the needs and constraints of this additional section and demonstrate its pertinence, while taking into account current and future mobility needs. Two public consultations were held as part of this study, one in December 2022 and another in June 2023.

The opportunity study for the extension to boulevard de l’Aéroport was completed in December 2024. The STO is awaiting the required funding to begin the planning phase, including the pre-project and the detailed plans and specifications for this major public transit project.  [

The main stages of the opportunity study were as follows:

  • Establish the portrait of the territory and the need for the extension;
  • Propose 3 route solutions that meet the objectives;
  • Analyze and compare the 3 solutions;
  • Present the results and recommended solution;
  • Refine the recommended solution and table the final report.

To carry out this study, we worked in collaboration with:

  • The City of Gatineau;
  • The Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable du Québec;
  • The National Capital Commission; and
  • The Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux de l'Outaouais.

Additional section to boulevard Lorrain

The second phase of the extension of the Rapibus corridor was inaugurated in August 2023. This 2.8 km additional section runs along the existing train tracks and links the Labrosse and Lorrain stations, passing by the Lac-Beauchamp station.

Several environmental measures were implemented to reduce as much as possible the impact of the construction work on the natural environments.
