Individuals with an impairment who do not require paratransit
service and who use the regular public transit system are
entitled to the following complementary services:
Attendant privileges card and bus hailing
kit
When people with visual impairments present a card
that grants them attendant privileges, their attendants are
allowed to board the bus for free. Note that the attendant
must be at least 14 years of age.
Call 819 770-7900, ext. 6950, for the eligibility requirements
and to apply for the card from the STO's paratransit service.
These individuals can also obtain a bus hailing kit
to indicate the desired route to bus drivers. This kit is
available from Customer Relations. Simply call 819 770-3242
for a kit.
Non-visible disabilities
Some people use public transit, but with some difficulty.
To accommodate them during travel, seats at the front of the
bus have been designated for their use. The occupants of these
seats do not always remember to offer them to people with
non-visible disabilities. That is why the STO issues a card
(or a sticker attached to the back of the personalized ID
card) that passengers can show the occupants in the priority
seats to ensure they have access to this seating.
For more information or for an application form, call 819
773-2222 (For people with hearing disorder or with speaking
problems call Bell Relay Service at 1-800-855-0511).
