The Société
de transport de l'Outaouais (STO) offers door-to-door
paratransit service for disabled persons who are unable
to use regular public transit. These persons must be
permanent residents in the area covered by the city
of Gatineau and the municipalities of Cantley and Chelsea.
Public transportation means a public transit service
that meets the general transportation needs of a clientele.
Co-ordinated travel and the punctuality of every passenger
are essential to ensure that the service remains as
efficient and economic as possible in order to carry
the greatest number of people within a specific budget
allocation.
The paratransit budgets, like those for regular
public transit, are limited and must be respected. The
STO does not presume to be able to satisfy all travel
requests, but it makes a constant effort, jointly
with all sub-contractors, to attempt to satisfy the
greatest number of travel requests.
The STO's paratransit service uses four types of vehicles:
adapted minibuses and taxis, and conventional minibuses
and taxis. These vehicles may use the reserved lanes
in our territory. The three-passenger rule does not
apply to these vehicles as they are considered as
buses.
