News in Brief

The STO reaches 20 million trips!

On December 29, the STO celebrated an outstanding record in ridership by surpassing the milestone of 20 million trips on its network in 2011.

To highlight this performance, the STO launched the “20 million trips : I made it happen!” contest. The prizes offered in this draw are a one-year public transit pass for each of the 4 categories of riders. In addition, a special STO squad boarded different buses across the network on that day and distributed various gifts to riders.

The STO invests continuously in improving its service in all areas of the city, but this success is undoubtedly due to the loyalty and commitment of its riders.

STO Buses Loaded with
Christmas Baskets

Once again this year, the STO showed its community commitment by providing 18 buses to take part in the distribution of Christmas baskets.

Bus driver Luc Champagne co-ordinated the recruitment of volunteers and made sure that everything ran smoothly for the distribution. A large part of the STO’s participation can also be attributed to the generosity of numerous drivers, their family members and many employees.

Made as part of the Mayor’s Breakfast, the baskets were distributed in different sectors of Gatineau on December 17, 2011.

The STO inaugurates a new terminus and incentive parking facility in Aylmer

On September 16, 2011, the Société de transport de l’Outaouais (STO) inaugurated the new Allumettières terminus and incentive parking facility in the Aylmer sector in Gatineau. The event was attended by several political representatives and numerous guests.

The new park-and-ride includes 119 parking spaces, a shelter for a dozen bicycles and four spaces for Communauto to encourage car sharing. This is the STO’s 19th park-and-ride facility. The terminus is the departure point for routes 41, 44, 49, 51 and 52, thereby making seating available for riders at the start of the route. The new terminus has four bus shelters that are heated on demand by radiant heaters to provide greater comfort for riders in cold weather.

The STO’s new terminus and park-and-ride was made possible thanks to the support of partners including the Quebec government, which invested more than $2 million in this $3 million project, through the public transit assistance program.
