H1N1 flu virus:
Adopt good habits aboard the bus
A few simple actions help to
protect everyone. During flu season, good respiratory hygiene
should be followed whenever you are in public, including the bus.
It's a question of respect and courtesy. An awareness campaign
will be posted in all STO buses shortly.

Frequently asked questions |
 |
Is the STO ready for a pandemic?
The STO has been taking proactive
steps for several weeks now, forming an internal committee that
has already come up with a response plan aimed at prevention, awareness
and response in case of a pandemic (business continuity plan).
The STO is in contact with the Direction de la santé
publique de l’Outaouais (Outaouais public health branch)
and Public Safety, and is monitoring the situation regularly through
the Pandémie Québec site.
Regardless of the prospect of a possible pandemic, every year the
STO conducts an anti-flu vaccination campaign and issues communications
to its staff about the proper hygiene habits to adopt.
If there is
a pandemic, will the STO continue to provide public transit services?
The STO has developed a business
continuity plan in case of a pandemic. The STO's objective is to
maintain quality service for the Outaouais population.
The STO would like to reassure the clientele that everything will
be done to maintain adequate public transit based on the context
and availability of its employees for as long as is permitted by
the public health authorities.
How frequently
are the buses cleaned?
As a general rule, the STO cleans
the inside of its buses once a week, and all STO buses go through
the bus wash once a day. It is up to individuals to protect themselves
during flu season.
Will an alcohol-based
antiseptic such as Purell be available on buses for passengers?
It is up to individuals to protect
themselves during flu season. The best protection in this case is
still personal protection. The STO suggests that the passengers
carry antiseptic personal hygiene products with them that they can
use wherever they go.
Is wearing a
surgical mask recommended?
Canadian government authorities
currently do not recommend that people wear a mask to protect themselves
from the H1N1 flu virus. The prevention measures recommended by
health authorities are annual vaccinations, frequent hand washing
and respiratory hygiene. To find out more, visit the government
of Quebec Web site
Pandémie Québec or the Health Canada Web site.
